The use of gold in different aspects of life is obvious. It is one of the popular gemstones. The demand for gold is rapidly increasing. Several famous gold mines were discovered in the 17th century AD. With the advent of mining technology countries are developing new gold mines.

The World Gold Map is a world map where the availability of gold mines in different parts of the world has been shown. South Africa. United States, Canada and Australia account for the large chunk of Gold deposits in the world.

The gold mines in South Africa are some of the deepest and most famous in the world. They are highly productive. Depth of some of the South African gold mines is more than two miles. South Deep and Target are some of the most famous gold mines in South frica. Target is situated in the southwest part of South Africa.

The gold rush occurred in Australia in the 20th century. Majority of the Australian mines are operated by the Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines. Gold was discovered in Brazil in the 1980s. Crixas and Jacobina are popular mines in Brazil. The Jacobina gold mine in Brazil is known for producing high quality of gold. Gold mines are also found in South
American countries of Argentina, Peru and Chile. China has been the largest exporter of gold in the world since 2007. China is followed by South Africa and Australia. In recent years China has bee able to increase its gold production. Tanjianshan in Western China is an important gold mine in the country.

There are several goldmines in Canada, the largest country in North America.  Campbell, Galore Creek and Kerness are the famous gold mines in Canada.  Generally underground or open pit techniques are used in these gold mines in Canada. Cortez and Hollister in Nevada are the high yielding gold mines in the United States.
