Maharaja Ranjit Singh brought it under his rule in 1804 AD. With the ascendancy of the British power in India, the areas around
Simla were incorporated into the British Empire. The region became
home to many hill stations set up by the British to protect themselves
from the extreme heat and dust of the northern plains in the summer.
